When it was announced that Monarch Airlines was to cease trading at the start of the month, FirstPort – whose Luton offices are only a short distance from Monarch’s headquarters – began working with Monarch’s HR community to support former Monarch staff in exploring opportunities to become FirstPort employees.

At a careers event on 6 October FirstPort’s team spoke with around 300 Monarch employees and the FirstPort team felt the values held by Monarch and FirstPort were incredibly closely aligned. Following this, FirstPort held an assessment day and an open evening, both exclusively for Monarch employees.

Emma Nugent, Head of Resourcing, said:
“As a local employer, we are concerned for the impact on local communities and the local economy following the collapse of Monarch, and keen to do as much as we can to support the individuals and families affected.

“Monarch were an incredibly people-focused organisation and everyone we spoke to at the careers event on the 6th told the same story, that it was the people they worked with that made their jobs great. This is the kind of environment that we have at FirstPort and we would love to be able to offer our vacancies to like-minded people from Monarch. This really motivated us to open our doors to them to give them an insight into FirstPort, what we actually do, the types of roles we hire for and the transferable skills that would help them to fit in.”

As a result of this initiative, FirstPort have already secured two ex-Monarch employees who will be starting in their new FirstPort roles at the end of the month and several more well into the recruitment process.
