Residents across FirstPort’s later living communities have been celebrating Easter with crafts and impressive charity initiatives.
A creative start to Easter in Thirsk
Residents at Rowan Court in Thirsk got their Easter celebrations off to a colourful start, embracing their creative sides with a crafts session to make their own Easter bonnets.
Community is a key part of later living and residents at Rowan Court enjoy a thriving social calendar, with lots of group activities to take part in.
A keen group of residents gathered in the communal lounge to take part in the session, spending several hours crafting their bonnets, whilst enjoying the company of fellow residents. Resident, Andrea commented:
We all thoroughly enjoyed designing and making our own bonnets. Most of us had never done this before and our end results were very good indeed. Whilst making them we chatted and laughed, overall having a successful and very enjoyable afternoon.
Andrea, Development Manager at Rowan Court said: “The residents really enjoyed the session. We have a very friendly community here and we hold regular activities throughout the year at Rowan Court for the residents to get involved in.
“We’re looking forward to our next activity, the very popular dice game, ‘Beetle Drive’, which is always a firm favourite amongst residents. We’re also gearing up for our celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, in May.”
Over 100 easter eggs donated to Lytham St Annes food bank
Meanwhile at Poplar Court in Lytham St Annes, residents came together to support their local food bank by donating over 130 chocolate Easter eggs. While they regularly contribute food and essential items to the Fylde Food Bank, this seasonal initiative ensured that local families won’t go without a sweet treat over the Easter period.
Linda Malcolm, a resident at Poplar Court who frequently arranges charity coffee mornings, helped to lead the efforts and also organised a coffee morning earlier this year to raise additional funds for the food bank.
Linda explained: “Charity is quite a big part of everything we do across the community. It’s really important that we support our local community. Everyone is so generous – it looked like a sweet shop at Poplar Court with the Easter eggs stacked up high.”
