Nikesh Solanki, Development Manager at The Odyssey, spoke to us recently about how he made the step from the retail and hospitality industries into property management.
“I couldn’t have asked FirstPort for a smoother transition into a new industry. Having a background within the retail and hospitality sectors I knew I was bound to face a few challenges in a new industry. That being said, it has only taken twelve weeks to feel like l have been doing the role for years. With a great support network around me, an amazing team to work with, and daily interactions with residents, I couldn’t have made a better move.
I am currently the Development Manager at The Odyssey, which is set on the banks of the River Thames with stunning views of London. My residents are proud of where they live and share their love of the development which makes my role all the more enjoyable.
Entering any new industry can be daunting, but for me, this added to the excitement of a new challenge. I used my training support manager’s knowledge and experience to give me the best possible start. I did have a knowledge gap, but using our eLearning tools and in-house training courses I was quickly able to bridge that gap. Having just published my first budget, I now feel settled in my role and I’m excited to put my stamp on things.”
