Life & Style – Autumn / Winter 2021 (Issue 27)

I hope you have managed to stay safe and well and that you are feeling more confident about meeting up with people. Let’s hope Christmas will be a bit more ‘normal’ this year.

There is a real sense of celebration in this issue of Life & Style as we learn of the remarkable achievements of some of our residents and also the tremendous amount raised for FirstPort’s chosen charity, Centrepoint. The astonishing total raised now exceeds £100,000! Thank you
to everyone who has contributed towards helping to change the lives of vulnerable young people.

I am sure you would like to join me in congratulating two of our residents. Carolyn Hampson of Brook Court in Salford, at age 75, has graduated with a Master’s degree in Art. She was also awarded an impressive ‘Merit’ too! What an amazing achievement, Carolyn! And you will love reading all about Chris Mathews’ extraordinary 500 mile walk along a Pilgrim Trail from France to Spain. Then, because he had enjoyed the trek so much, he walked all the way back again! Chris, aged 59, lives with his wife at Briary Court, Isle of Wight.

As always, we have included some deliciously healthy recipes including, as requested, more vegan and vegetarian options, and this issue’s exercises concentrate on toning up your tummy area. We have also uploaded a selection of filmed mini-workouts to the FirstPort website, which you can watch here.

We enjoy reading your stories and fundraising activities, so please do keep sending them in.

With all good wishes,

ROSEMARY CONLEY CBE DL
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
