Planting trees for the Platinum Jubilee

Residents have been planting trees in the communal grounds at their developments, as part of a special initiative to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen’s Green Canopy is a tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee throughout 2022, inviting people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a tree for theJubilee”. With a focus on planting sustainably, The Queen’s Green Canopy is encouraging people to plant trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.

FirstPort residents across the UK have been getting into the Juibilee spirit, by taking part in the outdoor spaces at their developments. During the planting season, from October to March, residents at a number of FirstPort-managed sites joined community groups across the nation in planting trees, including at Tembani Court in Devon, Barkers Court in in Sittingbourne, Sheraton Close in Northampton and Homefarris House in Shaftesbury (feature pictured).

While the nation comes together to celebrate the landmark occasion this weekend, communities are encouraged to continue to plant trees in the next planting season, later this Jubilee year, with even more FirstPort developments lined up to take part from October.

Laura Smith, Development Manager at Barkers Court said:

“It was great to see our residents taking part in The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative. We’ve all been so excited to celebrate the Jubilee and the new tree looks fantastic!”
