Residents at two FirstPort-managed developments recently celebrated the incredible milestone of their 100th birthdays! In addition to the customary congratulations from Her Majesty, The Queen, both our birthday girls received special surprises from loved ones and their local communities to mark the occasions.
Eileen Oades, of Cowplain, Hampshire, has been a loyal supporter of the communities she has lived in throughout her entire life.
Eileen met her late husband Peter whilst evacuated to Blackpool during World War II. Eileen and Peter would then go on to serve themselves, with Eileen joining the nursing reserve, while her husband served in the Navy. Eileen then go on to support her husband’s future career, both as a teacher in Nairobi, and later back home, as a vicar, before moving to Green Haven Court in 2009.
Eileen’s close family recently joined her to commemorate the special milestone, with a surprise celebration to mark this special milestone at her home at Green Haven Court in Cowplain, Hampshire.
Days earlier, Christine Morgan at Hunters Court in the West Midlands also celebrated turning 100 years young. Christine also has a background of military service, having served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during the second world war.
Christine’s neighbours, as well as FirstPort staff came together to mark the occasion, arranging a surprise celebration in the communal lounge at Hunters Court.
A much-loved member of the community, Christine’s birthday was even attended by military personnel, with members of the HQ 11 Signal and West Midlands Brigade delivering a birthday cake to Christine – one of three received to celebrate the big day in style!
We are delighted to see our residents celebrating such wonderful milestones, and are proud to see the community feel of retirement living shining through, as residents come together to help their neighbours to mark these special occasions.
