FirstPort achieves ISO 45001 alongside five-star grading in the British Safety Council audit

FirstPort has been recognised for its commitment to health and safety, receiving the ISO 45001 certification and a Five-Star grading for the seventh consecutive year in the British Safety Council’s Occupational Health and Safety audit.

With a score of 94%, the British Safety Council’s Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit demonstrates FirstPort’s commitment towards the continual improvement of all areas of wellbeing and health and safety practices.

This includes occupational health, employee wellbeing, safety culture, allocation of resources to health and safety and planning for change; all of which are considered important best practice factors.

The audit, which was carried out in November 2022 by the British Safety Council, included documentation reviews, interviews with senior management, employees and other key stakeholders, along with sampling of operational activities.

It highlighted FirstPort’s excellent working relationships between on-site colleagues and its Health and Safety team, as well as the many systems and procedures in place to provide support for colleagues when it comes to physical and mental health wellbeing.

FirstPort’s commitment to Health and Safety continues with it also achieving ISO 45001 certification for the second year in a row. The certification is an internationally recognised standard for ensuring health and safety in the workplace.

Stephen Carbery, Director of Health and Safety at FirstPort, said:

“The British Safety Council audit measured our performance against a number of key safety management indicators.

We are really pleased to have received the highest grading for the seventh year in a row alongside the ISO 45001.

“These certifications reflect our commitment to continually improving on all areas of wellbeing and health and safety management. It’s extremely important to myself and my colleagues at FirstPort that we maintain this highest quality of health and safety, so customers and clients recognise FirstPort as a best practice organisation.”

To achieve the British Safety Council grading and ISO 45001 certification, FirstPort underwent a comprehensive, quantified, and robust evaluation of its occupational health and safety policies, processes, and practices.

The audit measured performance against key health and safety management indicators and a detailed review of over sixty component elements.

In particular, the British Safety Council’s Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit provides organisations with a worldwide benchmark of their safety management systems against current best practice to enable continual improvement.
