FirstPort’s organisational footprint verified by the Carbon Trust

FirstPort’s organisational carbon footprint has been verified by the Carbon Trust in accordance to the ISO 14064-3 Standard. This provides a baseline from which it will look to reduce from going forward

FirstPort, one of the UK’s leading residential property services provider commissioned the Carbon Trust, a global climate change and sustainability consultancy, to provide independent assurance of its organisational carbon footprint in line with the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting across Scopes 1 and 2 and business travel Scope 3. This included five office sites across the UK.

The current pandemic provided its own challenges as site visits were not permitted, so a desktop review and telephone interviews were carried out in 2020 to assess the company’s carbon footprint between the period of January and December 2019. This approach proved ideal for both parties, as the majority of the Carbon Trust’s analysis (78%) covered FirstPort’s vehicle use and business travel for the period. This was the most material part of FirstPort’s carbon footprint.

Additional fact-finding activities were also carried out to confirm the completeness of the footprint, including viewing street-view and satellite images of the client premises and reviewing company reports.

FirstPort is heavily investing in digital technology which aims to drive a reduction in the company’s overall carbon footprint. The company will continue to work with the Carbon Trust to ensure continuous improvement is made in reducing its carbon footprint on a yearly basis.

Russell Tillison, Director of Legal and Business Conduct at FirstPort, said: “We’re at the early stages of implementing our sustainability strategy. The Carbon Trust verification is a really exciting achievement for us as we look to inspire the UK residential property services sector to work towards building a more sustainable future.”

John Newton, Associate Director at the Carbon Trust Advisory, said: “We are pleased to have verified FirstPort’s organisational Scope 1 and 2 and business travel Scope 3 footprint as a key step to its decarbonisation journey. We hope this will encourage other property management companies to follow suit.”
