Across FirstPort developments nationwide, the spirit of community continues to shine. Whether it's celebrating milestones, lending a helping hand, or simply enjoying each other's company, these shared moments highlight the strong sense of connection that defines our developments. Take a look at some of the recent activities bringing people together.

Residents support local food banks in Harvest Festival celebrations

Some of our later living communities recently held gatherings to mark the Harvest Festival, with residents making donations of food to support local food banks.

At Sovereign Court in Gloucestershire, residents turned their regular coffee morning into a special event to mark the occasion, with residents bringing food products to support their local community.

Similarly, residents at Catton Court in Norwich also contributed vital donations, whilst also enjoying an event in the development’s communal lounge, where residents enjoyed afternoon tea and sang hymns, with the local vicar also in attendance.

Angela Kemp, Development Manager at Catton Court said:

“We had a lovely afternoon at our Harvest celebration, everyone brought something for the table which will all go to our local food bank. Everyone had a lovely afternoon and a lovely afternoon tea provided by Teapot catering. We sang some Harvest hymns and had a very enjoyable afternoon.”

FirstPort Development Managers raise over £2,000 to support veterans

In support of FirstPort’s charity partner, two Development Managers from Hampshire – Sharon and Debbie – took on an incredible challenge last month of completing a marathon walk.

They raised over £2,200 for FirstPort’s charity partner Tommy Club, which is dedicated to helping veterans overcome homelessness, unemployment, and mental health struggles.

Reflecting on the achievement, Sharon said: “Debbie and I are so pleased we completed the walk. With the team’s support, we’ve raised an amount that we hope will make a real difference for veterans.”

Much-loved fundraising coffee mornings return to developments across the country

A number of our developments have recently held coffee mornings to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Developments including Fishersview Court in Pitlochry, Tabor Place in Braintree, Sovereign Court in Gloucestershire and St John’s Court in Devon held fundraising gatherings in their communal lounges, where residents enjoyed hot drinks and sweet treats to help support a cause close to the hearts of many residents and their families.

Additional activities such as a raffle and a tombola also took place as part of the fundraisers, with their collective efforts raising over £2,400.

Martin Walls, Development Manager at Fishersview Court, said: “This is the fourth year this event has taken place at Fishersview Court, and each year I am blown away with the fantastic team effort and community feel this event brings.”

Community gets creative for scarecrow festival

Earlier this month, Silvas Court in Morpeth hosted its first-ever scarecrow festival, bringing residents and their families together to create a wonderful display of creative handmade scarecrows. “The level of support from residents and their families has been incredible,” said the Development Manager, Ron Nott. He added:

“It took around a month of construction of the figures, and it’s really helped bring everyone together, even closer than they already are.”

Celebrating 20 years of Tylers Ride

Colleagues and residents at later living development Tylers Ride in Chelmsford held a party to mark 20 years since the development welcomed its first occupants.

The special occasion was celebrated by the Tylers Ride community, as neighbours enjoyed a party with live music to commemorate two decades of a thriving community.

Friends, relatives and neighbours gather for landmark 105th birthday

At Anglia Court in Dagenham, a celebration was held in the communal lounge to celebrate resident, Eileen Webster’s 105th birthday.  A popular member of the community at Anglia Court, with a love for weekly games of bingo, Eileen was joined by her neighbours, as well as friends and relatives – including her great-granddaughter, 101 years her junior – to mark the occasion with music, dancing, and cake.

Commenting on the special occasion, Eileen said: “I can’t believe I am 105 years old and still here. It was so lovely celebrating with all my friends and family.”
