A strong sense of community continues to thrive across FirstPort developments, with residents coming together in inspiring and meaningful ways. From creative knitting bees, half marathon fundraising and even Olympic celebrations, these moments highlight the generosity and connection that make our communities such special places to live.
London Landmark, Half Marathon
Development Manager Nicci Muriel, who is based at Homecolne House, proudly represented FirstPort in the London Landmarks Half Marathon. Nicci ran in support of FirstPort’s charity partner, Tommy Club, and raised an impressive £925 through her fundraising efforts.
A massive well done to Nicci for such an outstanding effort and for championing such an important cause.
Olympic silver win
Excitement around Team GB at the Winter Olympics felt very close to home, with curling skip Bruce Mouat’s mother, Marie, a resident at one of our developments.
While Marie travelled to Italy to support Bruce in person, residents back at the independent-managed retirement development showed their full support at home. The lounge was decorated with flags and banners, while residents gathered in support of both Bruce and Marie to watch each of the matches.
Stonelaw Knitting Bee
Residents at Stonelaw Court in Rutherglen contributed to the town’s 900th anniversary celebrations by showcasing their knitting talents. Members of the Knitting Bee Club created colourful squares to mark the anniversary, while also crafting knitted baby hats to donate to premature babies.
Tudor Royalty Experience
After a successful Bridgerton Afternoon Tea last year, Wade-Wright Court hosted a Tudor themed afternoon attended by 60 residents. The event featured live music from professional performers, alongside authentic costumes and jewellery. Development Manager Delyse Carter, who organised the event, even attended dressed as a Tudor Queen.
Residents from Wade-Wright Court Lynn and Dave Stringer were full of praise, saying:
“We all had an amazing afternoon, a massive thank you to Deylse on setting this all up for us and ensuring that we all had a good time. The Tudor guest speaker, Lady Samantha was fantastic – knowledgeable, friendly and extremely engaging. It was a wonderful event and we would highly recommend”.
A Wicked film afternoon
Development Manager, Melanie Wiggett based at Hometye House, hosted a cosy film afternoon for residents. The lounge was decorated with banners and sign boards, while residents gathered to watch Wicked and shared snacks amongst one another. It’s been made an extremely positive impact on both residents and in keeping the community spirit within the development.
Seagull Cruise
Over at Clachnaharry Court, residents embarked on a lovely seagull cruise, which was organised by The Highland Branch of the Seagull Trust, a voluntary organisation that provide free cruising on the canal for elderly, disabled or special needs groups.
Eleven residents took part in the canal cruise and were welcomed with tea and coffee on board. As they cruised along the canal, they viewed the canal banks lined with bluebells. The cruise also included live music from their own talented accordionist who played Scottish reels adding to the atmosphere of the journey.
