Residents and staff at Homeross House in Edinburgh came together last month to celebrate a major milestone – the 40th anniversary of the retirement development.
Around 75 residents attended an afternoon tea to mark the occasion, sharing stories from the past four decades of friendships, community events and the everyday moments that define daily life at Homeross House.
The celebrations continued into the evening, with music and drinks creating a warm and lively atmosphere.
Homeross House, which consists of 135 apartments, has been managed by FirstPort since it first opened its doors in March 1986.
The independent-living retirement development is managed day-to-day by FirstPort Development Managers Wesley Gill and Eric Kung.
Speaking after the event, Wesley said:
“Friday 27th March marked a special day for us here at Homeross House. Eric and I are delighted to have been part of such a significant milestone. The celebration was filled with special memories and a buzzing sense of community.”
Joining Wesley and Eric for the anniversary was former Development Manager and current resident Isobel Young, who oversaw Homeross House from its opening in 1986 until 2001, before returning as a resident five years ago.
Isobel opened the event with a speech, reflecting on the development’s early years and offering longstanding and newer residents an opportunity to look back on its history.
“Looking back, our first party in the lounge in April 1986 was just 15 residents. It marked a new beginning, and when compared with the resident parties at Homeross today, it is a reminder of how far our community has grown.”
The occasion marked four decades of community, friendship and shared history within the well-loved retirement development.
The 40th anniversary highlighted the strong community foundations built since its opening in 1986 and the many more memories yet to come.
